DANIER, Canada’s premier leather retailer, is teaming up with Ryerson School of Fashion to reach out to young fashion influencers in the third year of this exciting design initiative.

The DANIER Design Challenge will give 3rd year design students the opportunity to showcase their fashion chops by creating an original women’s leather garment design.

That’s where YOU come in. The Canadian public along with a panel of expert judges will choose the winners. Last year, Andrea Dineen was the winning designer – her jacket is in select Danier stores NOW!

YOU get to vote here from October 6th to December 21st. Your votes along with those of an industry expert panel -- including Chair of Ryerson School of Fashion Robert Ott, Danier’s Chief Merchandising Officer Olga Koel, fashion icon and television host Jeanne Beker, fashion designer and stylist George Antonopoulos, Flare Fashion Director Elizabeth Cabral, fashion designer Erin Kleinberg and Globe and Mail Style Editor and stylist Tiyana Grulovic, -- will decide who becomes the winner of the DANIER Design Challenge.

Three winners will be awarded a cash prize and the first place designer will get the chance to have his or her design featured in DANIER’s fall 2012 collection.

Our panel of expert judges will have their say after each stage as well. Cast your vote online now. Three winners will be announced in January 2012. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of $5,000 for 1st place, $3,000 for 2nd place, and $2,000 for 3rd place. The winning garment will be part of Danier’s fall 2012 collection.		In order to qualify for the DANIER Design Challenge you must be a 3rd year Ryerson School of Fashion student (enrolled in FFD 513) in the 2011/12 academic year. 30 students will be asked to make a :45 video presentation of their sketch which they will post on Danier’s website. The public will be able to vote on the designs. Judges will be able to share their thoughts on the design online in comments boxes. Students will be working with leather at this stage and will complete a finished garment and present it in a 1 minute video. Due Monday December 12, 2011 at 12:00pm. Public and judges will vote online by Dec 21, 2011 at 11:59pm. The winner of the DANIER Design Challenge will be announced Thursday January 12, 2012 at 6:00pm following a fashion show presentation of the top 10 finalists.
